However the first impression is a relatively unassuming one.
The building, which houses the Hyatt Regency the Churchill is not exactly what you would call
‘a sight for sore eyes'. As one shouldn't judge a book by its cover however, a
step through the door will open a completely different world to you. The lobby
is spacious, elegant and classically British. It's a bustling place that is
warm and inviting. What is
interesting to observe is that despite this mainly being a business hotel, you
have a good mix of people - both tourists and business travelers - which
creates a lively ambience.
The same can be said of the service, which is both efficient
and most friendly. In line with this credo, one can say that the rooms are
beautifully designed. Very much in the style of Hyatt - sober and to the point - this is the kind of hotel room that is both comfortable, without being
overdone. Luckily enough, the designers decorated the rooms in a modern and
elegant fashion, perhaps reflecting the building's comparatively short history.
A nice feature is Churchill's profile that appears here and
there throughout the property. As Churchill was hardly what the Germans would
call a Kostverächter the food on
offer here is not to be missed. Whether it is the 1-starred Locanda Locatelli,
serving Italian cuisine in a very hip room or the more relaxed Montagu - you
eat very well here. If that however isn't enough, Mayfair, Soho and the other parts of
London's West End are but minutes away, offering some exciting restaurants and
bars.
For what is essentially a business hotel, the Hyatt Regency
the Churchill is much more than just that. As a matter of fact, it combines the
efficiency and amenities of the world's better business hotels with the warmth
and personality that travellers look for when discovering a city like London.
